Proform Power 995 Treadmill Review

With the experience and knowledge that Proform has of the fitness equipment industry, you almost take it as a given that they will produce good quality equipment that Proform Power 995 treadmillprovides the consumer with everything they want and need. Their vast range of treadmills has certainly received high acclaim, and in this article we are going to take a closer look at the Proform Power 995 folding treadmill.

The Proform Power 995 has been designed for home use, but has included a lot of commercial grade components and features to give you as much range and functionality as possible. It does have a wide range of features that we will cover in more detail throughout this article.

This treadmill will suit people of all levels, but a beginner will probably not use it to its full capacity, although there will be plenty of room to progress. A more experienced runner will certainly have enough here to be able to really push themselves, and perform intensive and varied workout sessions.

A very important factor to consider when purchasing a treadmill for your home is the size of the machine, and whether it will fit easy enough into your intended room at home. But most good quality ‘residential’ treadmills have a fold away capability these days, and the Proform Power 995 is the same.

It is very easy to fold away, using the EasyLift™ technology, and has a cushioned release too. So when you lower the running platform you do not need to hold it, as it will lower down softly on its own.

A more detailed look at the Proform Power 995

Ease of setup

One of the first things you are going to encounter when you first receive your Proform Power 995 treadmill is setting the machine up. First of all, this treadmill is big and heavy. You may want some extra help to safely maneuver it into the desired location in your home when it arrives.

The setup instructions provided are clear to follow, so even if you are not technically minded, you should be able to follow along easy enough. Setup can be done on your own, although you will encounter a few parts of the process that could be a little awkward on your own. If you have another family member at home to help it would make it Proform-Power-995-treadmill-4amuch easier. Total setup time should take 2 to 3 hours.

Motor

The motor on the Proform Power 995 is a 3 horse power, continuous duty Mach Z commercial plus, which provides a lot of power for this treadmill. This commercial grade motor certainly delivers, you can feel the power and consistency as soon as you start using the treadmill, no matter what speed you are going at too.

Another great benefit of this motor is that it actively cools the internal components, making it extremely quiet when it is being used. This is ideal for home use, as you will not be disturbing people in other rooms with the very low level of noise it does produce.

Speed and incline capabilities

With the motor that the Proform Power 995 has, you would expect it to have a decent speed range. Well, it does. From 0 up to 12 mph, which is 2 mph more than most other treadmills in this category. It also uses the QuickSpeed® technology which allows you to go through the speed range quickly at the touch of a button, which is ideal when you want to manually adjust your speed mid workout.

The incline certainly does not disappoint either. You have a 0 to 15 degree incline capability, which again can be adjusted quickly and easily using the Quick Incline™ technology. Having this wide range of incline will let you vary your workouts and target different muscle groups, as well as burn more calories if this is your goal.

Proform Power 995 Impact reduction

One of the concerns with a treadmill is the stress it imparts onto the joints when you run on it day after day. The constant impact can start to take its toll if you are a frequent user of a treadmill, especially if you train hard on it. And while it is impossible to eliminate impact stress completely from a treadmill due to the nature of the exercise you are required to do, it can be made a lot better.

The Proform Power 995 uses the ProShox™ Elite 2 cushioning system to absorb the impact through the machine, rather than through your joints. You will notice as soon as you start using it how cushioned it does feel when you start to walk, and especially run on the treadmill. There are four isolators (two each side of the track) that absorb the majority of the impact of each stride you take.

Display

The display on the 995 is not the best looking display on a treadmill we have seen, but it does provide you with all the information you need to see, and it is clear to read, so this is the important thing. The various buttons for the features are well laid out and it is not confusing in any way. You can easily read the display while working out, and it is also easy to change any settings on the move too.

Built in workouts

To really improve your fitness levels and burn more calories you should use different routines when you work out. The Proform Power 995 comes with 20 different built in workout routines (10 performance based and 10 calorie burning workouts). All of these workouts have been designed by a certified personal trainer, and will give you a wide range of options to base your workouts on.

Innovative features

There are some pretty cool and innovative features on this 995 treadmill. The main one is the iFit compatibility. This will allow you to save your data to your iFit Proform Power 995 treadmill reviewmembership area, integrate with Google maps so you can actually set your own running course.

It even has the voice of “America’s Toughest Trainer”, Jillian Michaels to provide motivation for you and help you through your workout (if you can work harder with Jillian Michaels screaming at you, then there is no hope!).

When you are an iFit member, you also get a new workout downloaded (wirelessly) to your treadmill, so you can have a different course to run to each day. While there is a huge benefit to having this iFit compatibility, there is one major issue with this. To get the full benefit of iFit you need to purchase the wireless module which connects to the treadmill and allows all of the data to be transmitted between your iFit membership area and the treadmill.

Wireless iFit adapter not included

The wireless modem adapter is not included with the treadmill, and needs to be purchased separately at a cost of $99. You also need to open a membership at iFit, which also has an annual fee. When you purchase the wireless adapter you do get the first year’s membership included in the price.

So while this is an excellent addition to have with the Proform Power 995, you need to be prepared to pay an additional $99 if you want to take full advantage of it. If you do have the extra 99 bucks, it is worth getting, but this is obviously a sticking point for many people.

The treadmill is also compatible with Nikeplus.com. You can plugin your iPod or iPad and sync your results live to your Nikeplus.com account. If you want to listen to your music while you work out, then you can plug your iPod, iPad, or any MP3 player into the Intermix Acoustics™ 2.0 sound system. The sound quality is actually very good when played through this system.

Overall thoughts on the Proform Power 995 treadmill

This is certainly one of the best treadmills in the $1000 category. It has a powerful motor that is quiet and runs smoothly. The ProShox™ Elite 2 cushioning system works really well to reduce the impact on your joints, making it a very comfortable treadmill to run on. All of the innovative features are really useful too.

Our only problem with this treadmill is that fact that you need to purchase separately the wireless adapter so you can make full use of the iFit compatibility. Of course it does not diminish from the quality of the treadmill at all if you do not use the iFit addon. But it does feel like you are almost being teased into using it, and then you need to pay an extra $99 to connect to the iFit platform.

If you don’t mind paying the extra $99, then having the iFit compatibility is a great feature. But if you do not want to get it, then you are still getting one of the best treadmills available at this price range. We loved the comfort of the Proform Power 995, it feels very spacious to run on with the large 20” x 60” running surface. So definitely well worth the money and a very high quality treadmill indeed.
